Biography

Fiona Murtagh is an Irish rower from Galway who has represented Ireland in both the sweep and sculling disciplines. Born in 1995, she took up the sport in her home city and later earned a rowing scholarship to Fordham University in New York before returning to row for the University of Galway Boat Club.

Murtagh first reached the Olympic podium at the 2020 Tokyo Games, winning bronze in the women's coxless four, the first women's Olympic rowing medal won by Ireland. She returned to the Olympics at the 2024 Paris Games, part of a long run of appearances in Irish crew boats.

She later moved into the women's single sculls, winning gold at the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai. Her record spans both Olympic crew boats and individual sculling.
