Solo Irish rower, Jamie Carr, has successfully completed the 2022 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. It took him 53 days, 1 hour and 12 minutes to row the 3000 miles, alone, from the Canary Islands to Antigua. “There is absolutely nothing on this earth compared to what I just went through,” said Carr who arrived in English Harbour, on the 3rd of February 2023.
“It’s been an absolute emotional rollercoaster,” said Carr, who had no previous maritime experience. He was relieved to be back on dry land, having navigated storms, sharks and loneliness. “So many lows and a few highs but arriving was a sweet moment. Seeing that my family and others have come out to see me makes me really emotional.”

“It’s safe to say I’m never doing a solo row again! I thought I’d be OK because I like my own company but that’s a different ball game all together. I can’t describe to you the degrees of emotion you go through when you’re out there on your own, but we got there in the end with a big team effort,” said Carr. “I hit rock bottom this week, it’s been some of the toughest moments of my life. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone.”
Manchester City Academy football coach is no stranger to ultra endurance events. In March 2022 Carr ran the 36th Marathon Des Sables, which required him to complete six ultra-marathons in six days, a total of 250km across the Sahara Desert in Southern Morocco.
Carr’s epic feats of endurance has helped raise funds for City in the Community and Cancer Fund for Children.
