Worth the wait: the final day of racing at the Paris Olympic Regatta saw four new crews crowned Olympic champions and the Netherlands top the medal table. Ollie Zeidler (GER) freed himself from his Tokyo demons to win gold ahead of Simon van Dorp (NED). There was an hour’s delay to their event after the neutral athlete Yauheni Zalaty encountered transport issues en route to the course.

Karolien Florijn (NED) dethroned the five-time Olympian Emma Twigg (NZL) in an epic women’s single sculls encounter. Sandwiched between the singles races the British eights underscored their post-Tokyo revival with a gold medal for their men and a bronze for the women. Romania’s doubling up women emphatically ended their regatta on top of the podium.
