For rowers around the world, the first week of July signifies the advent of rowing’s greatest spectacle, Henley Royal Regatta. While 2020 will pass without a stroke taken in anger on the course, the regatta’s stewards have announced their Henley at Home programme, to air this weekend online, “providing all those who cherish HRR with an opportunity to celebrate and share their memories over what would have been the Regatta weekend on the 4th and 5th of July.”
According to the HRR website, the weekend schedule features a ten-hour showcase of the best Regatta YouTube coverage from the last five years, along with interviews with athletes involved in the most memorable races “and some of the biggest names in rowing.”
Coverage will be streamed from midday on Saturday 4th July on www.hrr.co.uk as well as the HRR YouTube channel.
Sir Steve Redgrave, Chairman of the Regatta’s Committee of Management said:
“In a year sadly overshadowed by COVID-19, when we are unable to host a Regatta, we will be pleased to celebrate what makes Henley Royal Regatta so special with our Henley at Home weekend. We think that the wider HRR family will want to mark the weekend so we are adding a schedule of interviews and outstanding rowing action from the last five years to support the special atmosphere.”
HRR say the event will be celebrated across social media platforms. Keep up to date by searching #HenleyAtHome.
