The first finals day of the 2025 World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, got off to a golden start for the host nation. They won the men’s and women’s lightweight double sculls. Silver medallists Tunisia (women) and Indonesia (men) picked up the first-ever World Rowing Championship medals in any boat class for their nations, while Germany and Peru secured bronze.

The day ended with Italy being crowned men’s quad champions for the first time since 2018, and the Dutchwomen turning the tables on Great Britain’s Olympic women’s quad champions. Romania’s Simon Radis further proved her versatility by adding women’s pair gold to her extensive medal collection, and on the men’s side New Zealand introduces ‘The Kiwi Pari Mk II’.

Racing continues on Friday in Shanghai with semifinals in the women’s and men’s single sculls and the PR3 mixed double sculls, medal races in the PR1 singles, double sculls, and fours, as well as several minor finals.
